From Cancun to Isla Mujeres: Nick & Nav’s Punta Sur Proposal & Engagement Session

When people imagine a proposal in Mexico, they often think of beaches and all-inclusive resort settings. But for Nick, he wanted something far more intimate and unforgettable for the moment he asked Nav to marry him. So after staying at the beautiful Iberostar Selection Coral Cancún in Cancun, the couple boarded the ferry and made the quick 20-minute ride across the turquoise Caribbean waters to Isla Mujeres for a completely different kind of experience.

One of the things couples love most about visiting Isla Mujeres is how easy it is to turn a Cancun vacation into something truly unique. Many couples staying in Cancun or Playa Mujeres come over to Isla Mujeres specifically for engagement sessions, proposals, anniversary photos, or intimate celebrations because the island has such a different atmosphere — slower paced, more romantic, more authentic, and filled with breathtaking scenery you simply don’t find at the larger resorts.

Nick and Nav’s story began back in 2021 during the height of COVID — a time when the world felt uncertain, isolated, and disconnected for so many people. Yet somehow, in the middle of all of that, they found each other. There’s something incredibly meaningful about a love story that began during such a difficult season in life. What started during a time of uncertainty ultimately led them here to Isla Mujeres, standing together above the Caribbean Sea, beginning the next chapter of their lives together.

Nick carefully chose Wave Point at Punta Sur as the location for the proposal. Punta Sur is one of the most dramatic and visually stunning areas on Isla Mujeres, known for its rugged cliffs, crashing waves, ocean pathways, and panoramic Caribbean views. Wave Point sits right at the edge of the sea with the cliff walls on one side and crashing waves on the other.

As Nav took in the scenery, Nick got down on one knee and when she turned and saw him, he asked her to marry him. Her reaction was absolutely priceless — pure joy, excitement, emotion, and complete surprise all unfolding naturally in front of the ocean. You could instantly feel the connection between them. There was such an ease and warmth in the way they looked at each other and embraced in that moment. Their love truly radiated throughout the entire session.

I photographed the actual proposal quietly from a distance so the moment could unfold naturally without interruption. Once the excitement settled and Nav had a moment to soak in the reality that she was now engaged, I walked up, introduced myself, and shared that her new fiancé had hired me to secretly document everything. Her excitement somehow became even bigger at that point.

From there, we spent the next part of the late afternoon exploring the dramatic cliffs and scenic ocean walkways around Punta Sur for their engagement session. Between the incredible Caribbean views, the energy they shared together, and Nav’s expressive personality, every moment photographed beautifully and naturally.
