Secret Punta Sur Proposal on Isla Mujeres | Matthew & Jo Jo's Surprise Engagement

Matthew had told Jo Jo they were simply doing a couples photography session during their vacation on Isla Mujeres. I picked them up in my golf cart at Casa Barco Boutique Hotel, where they were staying on Isla Mujeres, and we drove to Punta Sur, one of my favorite locations for surprise proposals because it offers several stunning viewpoints while still allowing for intimate moments.

Matthew had chosen the Lookout Balcony as the perfect place to propose.

Rather than beginning with portraits, we walked directly to the balcony. I asked Jo Jo to step toward the railing and admire the incredible view across the bay toward Cancun.

As she stood taking in the scenery, Matthew quietly dropped to one knee.

When Jo Jo turned around, the expression on her face was unforgettable.

Complete surprise.

Pure joy.

For a few beautiful moments, the rest of the world seemed to disappear. Those authentic reactions—the laughter, happy tears, and overwhelming excitement—are exactly why I love photographing surprise proposals on Isla Mujeres.

Once they had a chance to celebrate together and soak in the moment, we spent the rest of the session exploring Punta Sur. We wandered along the scenic pathways, stopping for photos at several dramatic overlooks where the rugged cliffs meet the brilliant turquoise Caribbean Sea. Every corner seemed to offer another spectacular backdrop for celebrating their newly engaged chapter together.

Their photo session ended with a few final portraits as the sun dipped below the horizon, beautifully captured not only the joy of becoming engaged but also the quiet excitement of everything that lies ahead.
