Isla Mujeres Marriage Proposal & Engagement Session at Punta Sur | Michael + Kaitlyn

Some moments in life happen only once, and a surprise marriage proposal is one of them. There are no second chances, no do-overs—just pure emotion unfolding in real time. Michael and Kaitlyn's secret proposal at Punta Sur on Isla Mujeres was exactly that: heartfelt, joyful, and absolutely unforgettable.

Michael contacted me before their vacation to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, to ask if I could secretly photograph his proposal. He had carefully planned every detail and wanted the moment captured without Kaitlyn suspecting a thing. The couple was staying at Privilege Aluxes, and his plan was to suggest they take a taxi to Punta Sur to spend the later afternoon exploring one of the island's most spectacular locations.

What Kaitlyn didn't know was that I would already be there waiting.

To keep everything completely natural, I approached them near the ancient Mayan ruins and introduced myself as a photographer from Denver, Colorado who was "building my portfolio." I asked if they would mind helping me out with a quick photo session around Punta Sur, explaining that I'd happily send them all of the digital images afterward. They smiled, agreed, and followed me without the slightest hint of what was about to happen.

We made our way to Wave Point, the dramatic cliffside overlook Michael had selected weeks earlier as the perfect place to propose. With the brilliant turquoise Caribbean Sea stretching endlessly behind them and waves crashing against the cliffs below, it couldn't have been a more breathtaking setting.

I posed them together and captured one simple photograph with both of them looking toward my camera.

Then Michael quietly stepped back.

He reached into his pocket.

Dropped to one knee.

When Kaitlyn turned around, the expression on her face was priceless. Complete surprise quickly turned into overwhelming happiness as she realized what was happening. The joy, laughter, tears, and excitement that followed were the kind of authentic moments every photographer hopes to capture. They were completely lost in the moment, and it was an absolute privilege to witness such an important chapter in their lives.

After the excitement settled and she proudly said "Yes!", we continued with a relaxed engagement photography session at Punta Sur. We wandered along the scenic walking paths, stopping at several of the dramatic cliffside overlooks and seawalks that make Punta Sur one of the most beautiful locations on Isla Mujeres. With every step, the newly engaged couple became more relaxed, and their excitement naturally shined through in every photograph.

As we headed back toward Privilege Aluxes in my golf cart, we made one final stop at one of Isla Mujeres' colorful murals. The vibrant artwork added a fun splash of island personality to their engagement gallery and perfectly reflected the happiness they were still feeling after such an incredible morning.
