There’s something unforgettable about photographing couples who are not only wildly in love but fully present in every moment. That was exactly the energy Ashley and Lance brought to their secluded beach photo session following their intimate elopement at Punta Sur on Isla Mujeres.
After exchanging vows in a beautiful private ceremony overlooking the Caribbean Sea, we headed to a quiet stretch of beach on the island for a more playful, intimate shoot. It was late afternoon on a warm May day—the kind of heat that wraps around you like a blanket—so the idea of stepping into the cool, turquoise water was a welcome part of the plan.
We started with barefoot strolls along the sand, just the two of them soaking in the joy of what had just happened. Ashley’s dress caught the light beautifully as it moved in the breeze, and Lance looked at her like he was seeing the love of his life for the first time all over again. There was no rush, no timeline—just the sea, the sky, and two people completely wrapped up in each other.
One of the things I love most about post-ceremony sessions is the shift in energy. The nerves are gone, the ceremony is complete, and what’s left is pure connection. Ashley and Lance were laughing, holding hands, dancing in the sand—totally themselves. These candid, unscripted moments are what I live for as a photographer.
And then came the water.
They didn’t hesitate. Ashley stepped right in, her dress trailing behind her, and Lance followed with a smile that never left his face. There’s something incredibly romantic and freeing about in-the-water sessions—especially in a place as naturally stunning as Isla Mujeres. The way they embraced each other, splashed and played, made it feel like they were the only two people in the world.
Photographing them in the water was pure joy. The clarity of the sea, the vibrant colors of the island, and the way their connection shone through every movement—it all came together in a way that felt effortless. It was intimate. It was fun. And it was them.
This session was a beautiful reminder that your wedding day photos don’t have to stop at the ceremony. Some of the most meaningful, emotive images happen when you let your guard down and lean into the experience. That’s where the magic lives.
