Marco’s Proposal to Jasmine at Punta Sur, Isla Mujeres

There are moments that remind me why I fell in love with photography—and proposals are at the top of that list. Marco’s proposal to Jasmine at Punta Sur on Isla Mujeres was one of those unforgettable experiences, not just for the couple, but for me as a photographer. The raw emotion, the dramatic backdrop, and the story behind the moment all came together in a way that truly felt magical.

Punta Sur has always held a special place in my heart. It’s easily my favorite location on Isla Mujeres for proposals. There’s something sacred about this southernmost tip of the island—where jagged cliffs meet the Caribbean Sea, where the wind seems to whisper secrets only lovers can hear. The natural beauty here is untouched and wild, with waves that crash fiercely against the rocks and sunrises that paint the sky with every shade of wonder. It’s a place of beginnings, of energy and movement—perfect for something as significant as a proposal.

But what made Marco and Jasmine’s moment so special wasn’t just the place. It was their story. They met three years ago on Instagram, of all places. A few likes, some DMs, and as fate would have it, they discovered they lived just a block apart. What started as casual online banter quickly turned into daily coffee walks, late-night talks, and eventually, love.

When Marco reached out to me with his plan, I knew we had to make it feel organic for Jasmine, who had no idea what was coming. We devised a little story: I’d “run into” them during their visit and ask if I could take a few quick shots for my portfolio. Jasmine totally bought it! She laughed, agreed, and we started casually snapping some photos as if it were just another day.

But Marco had a different plan brewing.

He had chosen Wave Point for the big moment—a dramatic outcropping where the sea pounds the rocks with incredible force. It’s one of the most photogenic spots I know, full of intensity and emotion, and Marco couldn’t have picked a better place. The waves were absolutely wild that day, crashing and soaring, almost as if they were celebrating too.

And then it happened.

I positioned them just right, giving Marco the signal. Jasmine turned around to find him down on one knee. Her expression was everything. It started with a flash of confusion—like, “Wait, what’s happening?”—then quickly shifted to shock, awe, and pure joy. Her hands flew to her mouth, her eyes lit up, and she said “yes” through happy tears. You could feel the energy between them—the kind of love that lights everything up around it.

Moments like these are why I do what I do. Capturing the in-between—the stolen glances, the disbelief, the euphoria—is what makes proposal photography so powerful. Marco and Jasmine’s day at Punta Sur was more than just a proposal; it was the start of a new chapter, witnessed by the sea, the sky, and one very lucky photographer.

To Marco and Jasmine: thank you for trusting me with this moment. Your story is one I’ll never forget.

And to anyone thinking about proposing on Isla Mujeres—Punta Sur is calling.
