Family Portrait Session on Isla Mujeres | The Power of Play

Family photo sessions are always special, but when you’re photographing a lively family with two young boys, the energy is infectious—and Isla Mujeres is the perfect place for it! I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful family who live on the island. Grandpa was visiting so it was the perfect time for a photo session! From the start, it was clear that this session would be full of joy, laughter, and plenty of fun.

When it comes to photographing boys, my approach is simple: Let them be boys! Unlike girls who tend to want to pose for photos, boys thrive when they’re allowed to explore, play, and let loose. The energy and excitement they bring to a photo session create some of the most genuine, memorable moments. I love capturing them as they run, jump, and interact with their surroundings—whether it's chasing each other through the sand or just being silly. The key is to let go of any expectations and simply enjoy the moment.

What made this session even more special was the parents’ willingness to get involved. It’s always a bonus when moms and dads aren’t afraid to roll around in the sand with their kids, jump in for a playful game, or just laugh together. It not only creates incredible photos, but it also fosters an authentic, relaxed atmosphere where everyone can just be themselves.

To add even more magic to this session, grandpa was also willing to jump in and have fun! Together, they made memories that will last a lifetime, and I was honored to be there to capture all of it—the laughter, the playful moments, and the love that surrounded them.

Sessions like these are the reason I love my work—because it’s about more than just photos; it’s about capturing the spirit and joy of family.
