An Early Morning Family Portrait Session on Isla Mujeres

It’s always a special moment when a couple returns to the place where they began a new chapter of their lives, and even more so when I have the privilege of capturing the next chapter with their children. I first photographed this lovely couple’s wedding on Isla Mujeres, and years later, they returned with their two energetic boys for a family photo session. It was such a joy to see them again, and even more exciting to meet their boys and document this new phase of their family’s journey.

We scheduled their session early in the morning before the beach became crowded with tourists. Isla Mujeres is known for its peaceful, picturesque beaches, but there’s something magical about the quiet of the morning, with only the sound of the waves and the soft light that creates a serene atmosphere for photos. It’s one of my favorite times to shoot because it allows families to truly relax and be themselves without distractions.

We also ventured into Centro, where the vibrant murals and colorful buildings of Isla Mujeres provided a lively backdrop for more photos. The bold, colorful walls perfectly complemented the energy and spirit of the family, and it was a fun contrast to the tranquil beach shots.

One of the most wonderful things about this session was how playful and relaxed everyone was, especially the kids. The parents were not shy about getting in the water, splashing around with their boys and having fun. These playful moments—laughing, chasing, and enjoying the water—are always some of the best images. There’s a certain magic in capturing the joy of play, and the genuine connection between parents and children in those carefree moments. It’s the kind of photo that, years down the road, will remind them of the fun they had together on that beautiful morning in Isla Mujeres.

I’m so grateful to have been able to capture these memories for this wonderful family.
