From "I Do" to Family Moments – A Sweet Reunion on Isla Mujeres

Back in May of 2019, I had the joy of photographing Kirby and Hunter’s breathtaking destination wedding on the stunning island of Isla Mujeres. It was one of those dreamy, sun-soaked celebrations that linger in your memory long after the last dance. Fast forward six years, and I was thrilled to reconnect with them—this time not just as a couple, but as a family of three!

Kirby and Hunter returned to the island with their sweet little daughter in tow, ready to soak up some sun and create brand-new memories. We planned a family photo session on Playa Blanca and although the wind decided to join us that day, it ended up being a welcome guest. The breezy weather kept the usual beach crowds away, giving us what felt like our own private slice of paradise.

There’s something magical about photographing families on windy days. Sure, there’s a little extra hair flying around, but that’s part of the charm! The wind adds movement, energy, and authenticity to the photos—it makes everything feel more alive. I always encourage families to lean into it, and Kirby and Hunter did just that, smiling through every gust and letting the moment unfold naturally.

Their daughter was an absolute delight to photograph. She was curious, full of energy, and completely enchanted by a little stuffed monkey I brought along as a prop and playful distraction. From the second she spotted it, she was all smiles and giggles, hugging it close and showing it off like her new best friend. That little monkey worked its magic, helping her open up and feel completely comfortable in front of the camera.

The session quickly turned into more of a playdate than a formal shoot, which is exactly how I like it. The family ran barefoot along the shoreline, chasing each other and laughing freely.

There’s something really special about being invited to document the different chapters of a couple’s journey. From their wedding day to family milestones, it’s such an honor to witness and preserve those evolving connections. Seeing Kirby and Hunter again, now as parents, was so heartwarming. They have the same playful chemistry they did six years ago, and it’s beautiful to see how that love has only deepened and expanded to include their daughter.

It was a windy day filled with sunshine, laughter, sandy toes, and sweet memories—everything a beach family session should be. I’m so grateful to have crossed paths with this lovely family again, and I can’t wait to see where life takes them next.
