Proposal and Engagement Session at Punta Sur, Isla Mujeres | Chris + Delaney

Chris and Delaney’s story begins back in the summer of 2020 at Carson Beach in South Boston—right in the thick of the pandemic. They couldn’t go anywhere indoors, so they found their freedom outside under the sun. Chris had a favorite spot along the seawall where graffiti art brightened the concrete, and “meet me by the graffiti” became that summer’s mantra.

One Sunday, Chris was up in Maine visiting family by the lake, while Delaney was over in New Hampshire at her family lake house. Chris’ college roommate, who happened to be dating Delaney’s college roommate (even though they went to different schools), schemed up a plan. They both drove all the way back to Boston, expecting a large beach get-together—only to find it was more of a setup than a party. They’ve been together ever since!

Delaney and Chris share a passion for travel—over the last four and a half years, it’s basically become the heartbeat of their relationship. Growing up in Boston, every winter they’d craved a getaway somewhere warm, so they would hop on down to Cancún. Chris shared “You could say it was our own “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” moment”. On their first trip, they went on a sailing and snorkeling adventure that led them straight to Isla Mujeres. Something about its laid-back vibe, the friendly locals, and that endless ocean view stole their hearts and they’ve returned more than half a dozen times since, and now it’s their go-to place whenever they are in Mexico.

By spring 2024, they had two big trips planned—one to Isla (naturally) and another to Florence, Italy. Chris knew that Isla Mujeres would be the location for his proposal. While doing a Google search for photographers, he came across my website and loved what he saw. We chatted about the details and came up with a plan.

Chris shared that he feel like Delaney knew an engagement was on the horizon, but he still surprised her with the timing. They stopped by one of their favorite little spots, The Joint—for margaritas, chips, and guac before strolling to Punta Sur. They’d never walked down to Punta Sur together, and as Chris puts it “it felt like stepping into a postcard—waves crashing against the rocks, a perfect view, and the moment was absolutely everything we’d hoped for”.

Their story started with “meet me by the graffiti” to their proposal on Isla Mujeres will soon continue with a destination wedding in Cancun!
