Marriage Proposal and Engagement Session at Punta Sur, Isla Mujeres | Konstantan + Erika
When photographing a marriage proposal, the goal is to capture not just the moment, but the depth of emotion that comes with it. For Konstantan and Erika, I knew their story was one that was best told through the raw, timeless simplicity of black and white photography. While color photography can highlight the vibrant surroundings—the golden glow of the sunset or the soft pastels of a beach at dusk—black and white photography allows us to focus solely on the emotions that make the moment unforgettable.
In this case, the connection between Konstantan and Erika was undeniable. As they stood together, the world around them seemed to fade away. The intensity of their love, the nervous excitement in Konstantan’s eyes, and the genuine surprise and joy that radiated from Erika’s face were the true story. Black and white photography strips away any distractions, allowing us to hone in on the pure, unfiltered emotion of the moment. The contrast of light and shadow highlights the subtle expressions on their faces—moments of quiet joy, silent promises, and that beautiful instant when Erika said “Yes.”
There’s something so intimate about black and white images. The lack of color forces the viewer to focus entirely on the subject’s emotion and connection. It’s the perfect medium for capturing the quiet moments of a proposal—the slight touch of a hand, a soft glance, a fleeting smile—that make such an impact on a couple’s love story.
After the proposal, we continued with their engagement session, and the black and white style continued to highlight their chemistry. The images became less about the setting and more about the connection between Konstantan and Erika—two people completely in love, sharing one of the most meaningful moments of their lives.
This approach felt like the perfect fit for their relationship—beautiful, raw, and filled with emotion. It was an honor to capture their story in such a timeless and intimate way.
